Session 7: Proposal ETH Zürich: CYBATHLON 2024. ETH will present this item and the Presidents are asked to decide whether they endorse the proposal. CYBATHLON is a non-profit project managed by ETH Zürich which brings together teams from all over the world to develop assistive technologies to help and support people with disabilities.

Session 6: Trust in higher education institutions. Led by Mr. Donald Filer, Associate Vice President of Global Strategy, Yale University. In recent years, levels of public and governmental trust in universities have declined in many parts of the world in a context of reduced trust in authority, the changing role of the media, and evolving national and international political landscapes. Yale will lead a discussion on the decline of trust in higher education institutions and the emergence of other attacks on higher education.

Session 5: Governance in world-class universities. Led by Professor Teruo Fujii, President, The University of Tokyo. The University of Tokyo will lead a discussion on the issue of governance in world-class universities. As part of a Japanese government funding programme, UTokyo is considering the characteristics of world-class universities and what the expectations of governance may be for these institutions.

Session 4: Mental health and wellbeing in university communities. Led by Dr. Anthony Freeling, Acting Vice-Chancellor, University of Cambridge. Mental health and wellbeing are of fundamental importance for students, academics and administrative staff in universities. This session will focus on how IARU universities are handling mental health challenges in the student community, how they are fostering a sense of wellbeing in the workplace and how they provide managerial staff with the tools to support their teams.

Session 3: Net zero in universities. Led by Professor Dr. Joël Mesot, President, ETH Zürich. Sustainability was a key topic at the IARU Presidents’ Meeting 2022 in Cambridge and this session is intended to develop this theme, in particular by examining the ways in which universities can work towards net zero.
