Intellectual freedom fuels progress
Founded in 1898, Peking University (PKU) is a teaching and research university which embraces diversity ranging from the study of sciences to humanities to management.
The commitment to intellectual freedom of thought has positioned PKU as a progressive center that has produced many modern Chinese thinkers and as an influential actor in the modernization of China.
The tradition of intellectual inquiry underlying the transformation of PKU over time provides valuable lessons for collaborative initiatives ranging from sustainability to institutional practices for the Alliance.
Prof Gao Song
Professor Gao Song serves as President of Peking University. He is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a fellow of the World Academy of Sciences. He also serves as a member of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People’s Congress, Vice Chairman of the China Association for Science and Technology, and Vice Chairman of the Western Returned Scholars Association (Overseas-educated Scholars Association of China).
Professor Gao has long been engaged in research on molecular magnetisms and their applications in quantum information technology and biomedicine. He has made original contributions to molecular solids with magnetic-electric ordering, molecular nanomagnets, and quantum-coherence manipulation of molecular magnetisms.
He has received the Second Prize of the State Natural Science Award three times, as well as the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. He serves as an Advisory Board member of Chemical Science, Editor-in-Chief of Inorganic Chemistry Frontiers, and Associate Editor of National Science Review.
With extensive experience in higher education administration, he has held a number of leadership positions, including Vice Dean and Dean of the College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering at Peking University; Provost, Vice President, and Executive Vice President of Peking University; President of South China University of Technology; and President of Sun Yat-sen University.
Dr LI Yun,
Director of Office of International Relations
Dr. Li Yun received the BA and MA from the School of International Studies, PKU and then Ph.D. in Management of Higher Education from the Graduate School of Education, PKU. Dr. Li has been working at the Office of International Relations since 2006, responsible for the exchange programs with international partners and the senior officer for IARU affairs at Peking University. From April, 2018, she also acts as the Chief for Office of General Affairs of Institute of Area Studies, Peking University.
Li Ke,
Division for Exchange Programs
Li Ke is a staff member in the Division for Exchange Programs at Peking University’s Office of International Relations. They coordinate and manage student and faculty exchange programs, handling applications, visa processes, and communication with partner universities to support international academic collaboration.
